REWE Group
REWE International AG is a powerful entity within the Austrian economy: the group is Austria's leading food and drug retail chain and one of the largest employers within the country.
As a member of "Austrian Mobile Power", REWE International AG is already contributing significantly towards the fastest possible implementation of an efficient superordinate overall system for electromobility in Austria, especially by establishing charging stations for electric vehicles, as they are already in existence at MERKUR markets in Styria and Carinthia. For this reason, the future-planned establishment of this type of charging station is already being worked on now. Moreover, in 2010, e-vehicles for the REWE Group car fleet were tested following the successful outcome of trials on hybrid trucks.
The reason for the commitment of REWE International AG with Austrian Mobile Power is to be found in the merchandising group's sustainability strategy, which involves the goal of the company to reduce CO2 emissions by at least 30 % by 2015 compared with 2006. In addition to innovative energy concepts for new market constructions and reconstructions, which, meanwhile, have been implemented in more than 320 branches - 300 of these corresponding to the European Union's green building requirements - and REWE Group's transfer to electricity from renewable energies in all markets back in 2008, various measures in logistics also contribute markedly to the responsible utilization of natural resources and the reduction of emissions.
