Wien Energie is Austria’s largest regional energy provider. The company provides more than two million people, approximately 230,000 businesses, industrial facilities and public buildings, as well as around 4,500 farms in Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland with electricity, natural gas and heat.

Wien Energie has already been working to research and develop alternative fuels for a number of years through a series of cooperative agreements. A variety of battery technologies and vehicle types are being tested with partners to spur on the development of electric mobility. Through its project e+wie(n), Wien Energie is taking the first major step in the direction of an environmentally friendly future. The aim is to prove that in the near future e-mobility can represent an important addition to the current mobility mix in cities. Through the integration of public transport and the conversion of private vehicles from fossil fuels to electric-powered engines, e-mobility will gradually become a part of daily life. The key objective here is to develop a systemic solution to meet the multitude of mobility needs while being sustainable and low on CO2 emissions. In its efforts to develop comprehensive electric mobility, Wien Energie is able to draw on a wealth of experience cultivated during a pilot project conducted in the 1990s. The company’s customer service division has covered a distance of around 300,000 km with its own electrically powered vehicles.

In cooperation with the City of Vienna, Wien Energie is subsidising the purchase of electrically powered bikes, mopeds and motorbikes to the tune of up to 300 euro per vehicle. An insight into our current and largest-ever test of e-bikes can be found online at http://blog.wienenergie.at/.
