An electricity-driven future 
The Austrian Mobile Power initiative follows a clear vision for the future of automobility: cars and light-duty commercial vehicles will in future be powered by electricity from renewable energies. As the country of renewable energy sources, Austria offers the best prerequisites for an environmentally friendly, sustainable transport system based upon renewable energy sources. Austrian Mobile Power wants to use this unique opportunity and promote developments in this area so that in future Austrians will not only be able to refuel more inexpensively, but also emission-free, quietly, comfortably and nevertheless sufficiently speedy to reach their goal.

Developments proceeding at full speed
The fact that the electric car will shape the future face of transport is barely conceivable for most people at the moment. However, developments in this area are already proceeding at full speed. The vehicle manufacturers are on the brink of mass production, the battery producers are developing lithium-ion batteries with considerably higher ranges, and huge steps are also being taken in the area of infrastructure. Nevertheless, there is a great deal of work and important milestones still to be achieved, such as in research and development, expansion of the infrastructure with electric filling stations, charging stations, workshops, battery technology and vehicle construction, recording, counting and billing technology. With its concentrated know-how from the different research and industry sectors, Austrian Mobile Power performs an important contribution to a faster market development and offers the corresponding platform with which to jointly coordinate the upcoming endeavors and to devise efficient solutions. Austrian Mobile Power concerns itself with all of the important aspects of electromobility. These extend from provision of the environmentally friendly generation of the required electricity right through to the charging up of cars with electrical energy.

Our ambitious goal
In 2020 there will be at least 100,000 electric cars on the roads in at least one conurbation. Throughout Austria, there could indeed already be 500,000 electric cars in operation at this time. In 2050, there will then only be purely electrically powered vehicles in Austria. At best, petroleum will only be found in the gearbox of our cars, and emissions will only come from the radio.
