Motivation

The motivation behind this ambitious project is to make Austria electromobile and therewith to transform truly sustainable economic activity into reality.

The future of mobility belongs to the electric vehicle, from the bicycle via the moped and motorcycle right through to the car.

There are currently some 4.5 million licensed cars in Austria; only around 2,800 are purely electrically operated.

Two-thirds of Austria's electricity generation is based upon renewable energy sources. This provides the optimal prerequisites for an environmentally friendly transport "revolution". Electromobility would make an important contribution to the attainment of climate targets: since 1990, Austria's CO₂ emission has risen by 11 % instead of sinking by 13 %; a considerable part of this is attributed to traffic, where emissions have even risen by 73 %.

Electromobility appears to be one of the great bearers of hope for a strengthened climate protection, as is required in the future, but also to relieve the living environment from the burden of air pollutants.
